India is a multilingual, multicultural, secular and democratic country. India has about 18 official languages and 10 scripts. Medium of instruction for higher education is English but lot of gray literature is available in native language. An effort is made here to create user interface for Greenstone Digital Library Software in Indian national language, Hindi and four South Indian languages: Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu.

A few sample collections are also built for all the five languages. This project, led jointly by Utah Valley University (UVU) and the Polytechnic of Namibia operating in conjunction with the Namibian National Archive, aims to develop and make available worldwide a rich digital resource that reflects the diversity of voices and cultural stories of Namibian people. The collections are being expanded to include oral histories of indigenous peoples and freedom fighters, images of independence and of the colonial period, documents of transition, and other artifacts. The project is also working to develop skills and capacity among Namibians to continue to expand the archive.

Integration of Koha and Greenstone to enable fulltext searching in Koha. Using Koha, an open source library automation software, 4 different collections are created: 1. Records from a big library (about 120,000 records) 2.

Records from a medium size library (about 20,000 records) 3. A few multilingual records downloaded from the Net and 4. About 15 e-books downloaded from the Net, which do not violate copyright law.

As Koha does not support fulltext indexing and searching, it is integrated with Greenstone Digital Library Software for full text searching. The fulltext documents are indexed both in Koha and Greenstone. For searching the fulltext documents a SRU request is passed from Koha to Greenstone. This is the first implementation of Greenstone-Koha integration implemented in 2009 January and a workshop was conducted in July 2009.

Manioc is a digital library developed by the University of the Antilles and Guyane (specializing in the Caribbean, the Amazon and the Guyana Plateau. The collection contains thousands of documents: digitized texts (historical works and documents emanating from university research projects), as well as audio, video and pictural records relating to cultural, social, economic and political developments. Manioc benefits from several private and public partnerships and is an open access initiative accessible through OAI-PMH harvesting (the base address is http://www.manioc.org/gsdl/cgi-bin/oaiserver). The MOST Digital Library contains results from research carried out during the first ten years of the MOST Programme. The themes covered include Drugs, Globalization and Governance, International Migration, Multicultural Societies, Poverty Eradication, Social transformations, Sustainability, Urban Development and HIV/AIDS. The MOST digital library offers a brief abstract of each document (in English, French and Spanish) that identifies the key issues and arguments in a few lines.

The database contains the documents in their original language (English, French or Spanish) and in translation if such a version exists. The user interface is currently in English only, but will shortly also be available in French and Spanish. This digital collection draws together several types of primary materials concerned with aboriginal land rights in British Columbia, Canada. Additional historical records, including maps, documents, newspaper articles, photographs, audio and video clips showing the continual assertion of aboriginal title and rights are available here.

The testimonies database will continue to be developed over the coming years to incorporate more audio, video, cartographic and photographic material. In contrast to the popular belief that the abolitionist crusade was driven by wealthy whites, these important documents provide a portrait of black involvement in the anti-slavery movement.

The collection was donated to the University of Detroit Mercy by Dr. Peter Ripley in 1998. The paper collection is maintained by Dr. Finkenbine who teaches in the UDM History Department. The digital archive is being developed and maintained by the UDM Libraries / IDS.
