I purchased this card primarily as an upgrade for an onboard sound card that is pretty much junk, as most are. I see some reviewers complaining about things that they shouldn't complain about. 1) This is an OEM (white box) product therefore you should not expect there to be a manual, CD etc.

Included with the card 2) Creative has updated drivers on their website. In fact, they have updated the drivers for this card as recently as Jan. They even offer Windows 8 support for those of you who are unfortunate enough to be running Windows 8 The card seems to produce clear and precise sound with low distortion. I'm using the digital (tosslink) connection directly to my sound bar and it sounds great. With the analog stereo plug, I was getting some buzzing sound at higher volumes.

Using the digital connection has all but eliminated this noise. I have noticed while using the optical out connection that most of the 'sound enhancement' features are not available. This could be either the way I have it set up or just a lack of knowledge on my part as I'm not an expert in this stuff. Anyway, it seems to be a really good card and in my opinion a fantastic, cheap upgrade that I would recommend to anyone who uses their PC for gaming, music or video playing. Reason for only 4 out of 5 is because the card looks like its been sitting out and has some almost worn looking places. Still performs excellent.

For those having driver issues, I am posting to help you. Creative has drivers but they will not work for this. For best results go to a website called 'Hardware Heaven' and find the 'PAX' section of the forum. They have been making their own drivers with improved performance. They work perfectly with all versions of this card. If you are trying to find drivers, this is where you must go.

Besides this.realtek drivers will work for creative pci xfi cards, lol dunno why but they work great 0770 for those that r scratching their brains for drivers. Also the 0770 was an alienware addon, so u can get creative full drivers from alienware for 0770 600 megs, google it.+ alienware makes nice machines, period, and their support is worth the price. RealtekWin7-64Win7Vista64VistaXP64XP2K(R2.31) drivers for asrock mobo, drives this xfi, just wierd but it works. And sounds great. No asio tho, for asio goto alienware. If they support their old sound cards this well, well, their support is top notch. These cards have always been good performers and work with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

I am currently using Windows Native High Definition Audio Device Drivers in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 Update (dual boot). The sound is quite good. Using a 4.1 speaker system. 'Configure' your speakers using 'sound' in control panel I have selected settings for 5.1 audio, (and un-checked center speaker, un-checked cables specific for connecting sub woofer) and my games play in surround 4.1 sound. Music CDs play in 2.1 mode or stereo plus sub woofer.

I continue to like the card and its sound. You get, on this card, all the things you'd usually drop $100 for on a soundcard. Optical in/out and 7.1 support is fantastic.

Works out of the box on Windows 8.1, 8, and 7, that I've run so far on it. Zero latency, which means I was able to take out my old MAudio Delta card finally. This is a great deal. You don't need the software CD or the fancy packaging, so unless you're really, really gung-ho hung up on getting those two things, skip the more expensive versions and buy this card. I'm super happy with it.
